THE 3 CHARMERS OF NEW ORLEANS

The 3 Charmers Bio and Interview

New Orleans has had its fair share of obstacles in recent years, from Hurricane Katrina to the BP Oil Spill. Yet, here is a culture that refuses to go away, and holds on tight to preserve its place as one of the most unique cities in the world. Why? The people.

This is where The 3 Charmers of New Orleans comes in. To bring that unique taste of New Orleans with its relentless spirit to the world. It stages characters with personalities that are unforgettable because they are true New Orleanians and express that with their New Orleans accents on the stage in a comedic way. The 3 Charmers are proud to share and interact with the audience why they are never going to leave their hometown.

This production stages stand-up comedy along with skits that will take an audience through the trials that New Orleans is having to overcome, and mixes it with the joy of being able to still call their city home. This journey of New Orleans is 90 minutes, and within this time audiences will come to love these ladies!

With a flavor of skits and stand-up comedy, this style show is quickly making its mark. With a heart-warming skit starring Ms. Inez Lappicola (played by Becky Allen)  who says how she lost everything in the wake of Katrina, and her dearest friend Ms. Loyce Cangelosi (Amanda Hebert) who stands by her friends trials through it all. Then the stand-up comedy of Jodi Borrello who will share the meaning of the family unit in New Orleans with the type of humor like no other.

A night that is sure to be filled with laughter, along with stories to make your mamma blush, brought to you by 3 women with decades of talent under their belt.

The 3 Charmers Interview

Will people not from New Orleans understand the humor of The 3 Charmers or is geared more to a local audience?

We have geared this 90 minute show for any audience to understand.  The culture we speak of about New Orleans are the things most people know about; Mardi Gras, the food, Katrina. Plus, we give them those added bonuses of seeing characters that are true New Orleans through and through, darlin’.

Is New Orleans making a comeback from the recent disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and now The BP Oil Spill?

New Orleans hasn’t always been known for being resilient, but now we are proving to the world we can overcome the worst of the worst and have fun at the same time.  There is no other city in America that welcomes people such as we do, we always have a kind word, and we love people - that’s why we have festivals, Mardi Gras, or if there isn’t anything going on, we will make something happen.

Why do you all still live in New Orleans?

This is where we all grew up, and this is where all of our families still live. The one thing that I think Hurricane Katrina made aware to the rest of the country about New Orleans is that most of us are 5th, even 6th generation New Orleanians. We don’t move far from home. Always in the same area code.

The New Orleans accent - so many people don’t really know what it sounds like, do most people in New Orleans sound like you all do?

Yes, yes, and yes. This is how New Orleans people speak - not as if we are southerners, and a lot of people don’t know that. We are here to let people know this is how we sound, this is how we talk, and most importantly this is how we live, and none of us would have it any other way.

How does stand-up comedy play into this show?

Well, we all like to be able to tell our own stories with a twist as ourselves, and that’s where the stand-up comedy comes into play. Plus, this is a show unlike most, because along with the stand-up comedy we give the audience a skit with the characters Ms. Inez & Ms. Loyce.  In addition to that, in the beginning of the show all 3 of us come out to the stage and let the audience know who we are in a way that shows we are New Orleans through and through.

The characters Ms. Inez & Ms. Loyce are they real people?

These characters are based on a mixture of people we have known through the years, and a little bit of ourselves added to the mix. We like to think of the fact that you can find either one of these ladies in a house anywhere in New Orleans. They have big hearts, and they know how to cook.

Being that this is an all female show what will make men want to come to a show such as this?

The women. Just kidding. This is an all around fun show. Men won’t even realize it is an all female show, because funny is funny.  We don’t pick on men in any of our acts, because we love men!
